Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 to honor “those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character” in engineering and related disciplines. Tau Beta Pi requires that undergraduate juniors be in the upper one-eighth of their class and that seniors be in the upper one-fifth of their class based on GPA to be invited to this prestigious organization.
